What is Just Cause
What is Just Cause? Just(e)*: Just Cause is the social justice group at Collège Sturgeon Heights Collegiate. We are committed to achieving local and global justice. Our group has three pillars that support and inform what we do:
Awareness: we want our members and the community at large to be informed about issues that affect our world. If we hope to inspire action, first we need to help people to understand and care. We raise awareness by attending conferences and creating campaigns aimed at informing our student body.
Fundraising: we develop creative ways to raise money for worthwhile causes. We believe that we are fortunate enough to live in a wealthy society and it is an act of justice to try to re-distribute some of our community's wealth. Each year we usually pick one major and two minor projects.
Action: we get our members out in the community engaged in positive action. This includes volunteering, writing letters and attending rallies. Our members volunteer regularly at Winnipeg Harvest and Siloam Mission, but we are also involved with other activities such as assisting with our school's annual 30 Hour Famine.
*Being a French Immersion school we have added the French spelling of Just Cause.
